FIRST DEFEAT

Swansea suffered the first defeat of the 2013 calendar year in the recent 1-0 defeat at the hands of West Ham, but the manager Michael Laudrup said after the match that he is not too concerned about this result.

The manager has seen Swansea go on an incredible run of form since the turn of the year. They have managed to secure a place in the League Cup final. They will be playing against lower league opposition Bradford city in this competition, which has made them the favourites to lift this major trophy after a long time. Andy Carroll scored the only goal of the game in the match against Swansea to send them to the first defeat of the calendar year.

Despite playing good football throughout the season, Swansea failed to make any clear-cut chances in this match. The West Ham goalkeeper Jussi Jaaskelainen had a comfortable evening in the west goals. Laudrup has said that it is normal for the team to have an off day occasionally. He has praised the way the team has been performing over the last couple of months. He has said that the players did not do specific mistakes that led to the defeat. Due to the style of play adopted by West Ham, it was difficult for Swansea to get their own game going.

“I hate to lose games, but I can’t really say we did anything specifically wrong. We could have won 1-0 or it could have been 1-1. After they scored we came back, had a few chances to equalise, but we just have to accept it. We’re very difficult to beat. Nobody likes to lose. We’re not used to losing after the last seven weeks. They gave us more or less what we expected,” said the Swansea manager after the match.
