SWANSEA MISS OUT

Swansea city started the season as the holders of the League Cup, but they have suffered a humiliating exit at the hands of Birmingham in the third round of the competition itself.

Swansea managed to beat in the likes of Chelsea on the way to the first silverware last season. This increased expectations in the team this campaign and they did their bit to sustain the expectations by bringing a lot of big names in the summer. However, it has been a poor start to the season for Michael Laudrup and his men.

Apart from the 3-0 victory against Valencia in the Europa league, this season has had a few highlights for the club. They are now unable to defend their trophy as well after suffering a 3-1 defeat against Birmingham. After the match, Laudrup said that this was totally unacceptable from his players given that they had a lot of quality across the pitch. Dan Burn, Matt Green and Tom Adeyemi were the scorers for Birmingham on the night. For their part, Swansea were coming into the match on the back of a good run of form that has seen them take up wins in the last two matches.

Laudrup, though, was pleased with the fact that his team created a lot of chances.

“With the number of chances we created, we should have scored more. We paid the price of that because I don’t think I would be very wrong when I say we could have been four up at half-time. We create a lot of chances every game, but you have to score. We didn’t score when we should have done. When we didn’t, it gave them confidence that they could get into the game,” said Laudrup, whose team face Arsenal in a home match this weekend in the Premier league.
