SWANSEA CITY SET TO DECIDE ON FUTURE OF THE COACH

English Premier League side, Swansea City, are reported to be set to decide on the future of the coach in the light of recent losses.

The club’s management are going to make a final decision on the future of Francesco Guidolin this week.

However, the coach oversaw an impressive win over West Ham at the weekend to push the Swans into mid-table and even open the door for a top 10 finish to a problematic campaign that has been previously besieged by relegation fears. His run of 24 points from 15 games since taking over in January has helped transform Swansea’s season and has certainly enhanced his chances of retaining his role beyond Sunday’s final game against Manchester City.

Guidolin’s short-term contract will expire after that match and there have been indications for some time that the Italian will not be offered a new deal Chairman Huw Jenkins has sought other candidates to take the club forward this summer – and possibly into a new era with negotiations over a takeover by US businessmen Steve Kaplan and Jason Levien ongoing.

The chairman is believed to have prepared a list of possible contenders for the job with even former boss Brendan Rodgers the number one target. However, Guidolin does have his supporters and there is a growing section of the fan base who believe the 60-year-old has earned a chance to carry on his work in south Wales. Guidolin wants to stay and it is thought that a final call on his contract will be made over the next few days. There are suggestions a meeting of the club’s directors will take place before the game with Man City where an agreement over the next managerial move will be made.

The two recent victories against Liverpool including the away stunner against West Ham might force the club and fans to give Guidolin another season.
