STEVE COOPER RUES SELF-INFLICTED BORO DEFEAT

Swansea City manager Steve Cooper was left frustrated after the performance of his players during the 2-1 defeat to hosts Middlesbrough at the Riverside Stadium on Wednesday night. The Swansea City boss was left to reflect on a self-inflicted defeat during his post-match press conference after the English Championship matchday 15 clash.

According to Steve Cooper, his team started poorly against Boro and never really recovered from that poor start till the game ended. In his assessment, Swansea City gave away two poor goals to hand Boro victory on a platter of gold and also suffer a third league defeat of the season in the process.

Middlesbrough forward Duncan Watmore was the thorn in Swansea City’s flesh with his two goals either side of the half-time interval. He scored the opening goal of the game shortly after the midway point of the first half off the assist from fellow forward Mavin Johnson.

The Sunderland Academy product then scored his and Boro’s second goal at the midway point of the second half to put Neil Warnock’s men in a fantastic position. 21-year-old English midfielder Yan Dhanda came on for fellow midfielder Kasey Palmer and went on to halve the deficit for Swansea City but it proved to be too little too late as Boro won the points courtesy the star of the show Duncan Watmore.

Steve Cooper would be hoping for a significant improvement from his players when they entertain Luton Town at the Liberty Stadium on Saturday afternoon. The Boro result ended their recent good run of three games without defeat since the 1-0 loss at Norwich City through a late Marko Stiepermann strike. That Norwich City was their only defeat in nine Championship outings until the Boro game yesterday. After Norwich City, Swansea City defeated Rotherham United 1-0 at home, drew 1-1 at home to Sheffield Wednesday before beating Nottingham Forest 1-0 away from home.
